I’d like to give you a bit of a back story to explain how I got to where I am at this moment in my life.
The Big Decision
I was a Childcare/Family Solicitor for many years. I grew disillusioned with law, so I retrained as a teacher for TEFL and started to work in VIetnam as I’d travelled extensively around South East Asia. Due to family situations, I decided to try and look for a position closer to the UK. Thankfully, I was able to secure a teaching position in Piacenza, Italy. This was my home for 3 years.
Where I am now!
After three years I decided to look for another position in a different part of Italy. Having grown up living near the coast, I was lucky enough to gain positions in a school in a little town called Melito di Porto Salvo in Calabria.
In August 2019 I started the long journey down to Melito. It took me 3 days to get there by car as I wasn’t able to go very quickly as the car was rammed with the stuff I had collected whilst being over here. It’s funny isn’t it that my whole life was stuffed in a car. Gone were the days when I measured how successful I was by how my house looked and what things I had in it. It was purely what I needed to get me from day to day.
This opened up other opportunities. Discovering a region largely unvisited by English tourists. I have also just helped to write a chapter for a forthcoming major tour guide for Sicily which has been published and is available wherever you get your books from!
In January 2022 I took the decision to move back to England for many reasons, including my daughter’s wedding. I wanted to be somewhere where I could walk to the wedding if needed! Who knows, I may stay here, or I may go somewhere else. Never say never!
